A 32-floor apartment in a full-service condo tower in downtown Austin, Texas, is headed to the auction block in June.
“It’s a beautiful property and a beautiful location, with breathtaking views,” Tara McLean, president of Elite Auctions, which is based in Naples, Florida. The condo, which faces northwest, has views of Texas Hill Country, the capitol and Lady Bird Lake.
Elite Auctions is conducting the auction, which is being offered without reserve at the property, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, with registration starting at 9 a.m.
“Without reserve means it’s going to sell on auction day to the highest bidder regardless of price,” Ms. McLean said. “People can bid remotely, and we have a virtual tour on our website.”
Private preview showings are also available, starting on May 23.
The two-bedroom, three-bath apartment in The Austonian was most recently listed with Compass for $3.205 million, Ms. McLean said. It was listed for $3.375 million in September 2018 and for $3.295 million in October 2019.
The Austonian, at 56 stories, is the second-tallest building in Austin.
The current owner, Susan Weiss, 34, said that she loves the building’s walkability and good downtown location.
“The location is amazing,” she said. “We’re in the best part of Austin.”
Her husband, Randy Weiss, agreed.
“You’re one block away from the water, you’re one block away from hiking and biking trails,” said Mr. Weiss, 53, an electronics recycling industry professional. “We’re able to walk just about anywhere—it’s all right at your fingertips.”
“The Austonian is considered one of the premier buildings in Austin,” said Ms. Weiss, who is in the luxury jewelry and watch market. “Any direction you go there’s something to do.”
The Weisses are selling because they are building a house in Naples and want to live there full time—at least for now.
“We loved living in Austin and may continue to have a home here,” Ms. Weiss said.
The couple bought the 2,822-square-foot apartment new from the developer at the end of 2015 and hired Gingerwood Design to design and decorate the space.
The kitchen is all custom, with Viking, Sub-Zero and Bosch appliances. The bar area includes three wine refrigerators that hold up to 150 bottles each, Ms. Weiss said.
The master suite has a west-facing private balcony, dual walk-in closets, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower, heated Italian marble floors and black matte marble countertops.
The apartment has an open-floor plan and French wide-plank oak flooring. It comes with three parking spaces and a storage unit in the parking garage.
