Bestselling cold-war espionage novelist Tom Clancy’s penthouse in Baltimore has had a long run on the market. The property in the Inner Harbor neighborhood has sought a buyer for five years to the month, beginning its journey in 2015 with a $12 million asking price. It is currently priced at $5.9 million.
The massive home in the Ritz-Carlton is a combination of four original penthouses; Clancy had them transformed into a full-floor residence that measures a whopping 12,000 square feet in all. The residence occupies the entire top floor of the building. Clancy apparently invested well over ten million dollars into the trophy property in the late 2000s, and put two years into the project.
The penthouse contains four bedrooms and six baths. Its interiors are generally white or off-white, allowing the city views available from most rooms to stand out dramatically. Its amenities include a kitchen with top-end appliances, a home theater and a fitness room.
Clancy’s Ritz-Carlton penthouse was joined by his nearly 550-acre estate, Peregrine Cliff, a rural Maryland property which hit the market in 2018 for $6.2 million, and ultimately sold this summer for $4.9 million.
The penthouse is slated to go under the gavel on December 12th, with no reserve price set, on site. The auction will be conducted by Elite Auctions, and remote bidding will be available.
Clancy’s books have sold over 100 million copies. He passed away in 2013.
