The Real Deal: Huge event-ready house in D.C. area is headed for auction

A mammoth house made for lobbyist-level entertaining in the Washington, D.C., area is headed for auction.

A live on-site auction with no reserve will be held next month at the 27,256-square-foot chateau in Potomac, Maryland, according to Mansion Global. Elite Auctions will conduct the June 15 auction of the property, which was initially listed for sale in August 2016 for approximately $10.5 million.

The latest asking price was just under $10.3 million for the four-level, brick and cast stone house, which was built in 2009, according to the listing with Long & Foster Real Estate in McLean, Virginia. The seller bought the house for $2.75 million in 2005.

The nine-bedroom, 13-bathroom house features dual staircases in a grand entry that leads to a ballroom big enough to seat more than 300 guests.

“The ballroom is phenomenal for political functions or any type of event,” Elite Auctions founder and chief executive Randy Haddaway told Mansion Global.
