Washington Post: Historic farm property in Carroll County, Md., to be auctioned Nov. 9

Buyers who have dreamed of owning a farm, a historic farmhouse or a mansion have a chance to compete in separate auctions for each house. The auctions of 6700 Old Washington Rd. and 6702 Old Washington Rd. in Woodbine in Carroll County, Md., are both without reserve, which means the owners will sell to the highest bidder regardless of the price.

Located about one hour north of Washington, the property includes a 350-acre farm with crop fields, a pond, three barns, a tractor shed and silos. Twelve hunting stands are on the property, which will be divided between the farmhouse and the estate house.

The farmhouse, currently listed for sale at $500,000 with six acres, was built in 1870 and includes a large front porch, four bedrooms, three bathrooms and approximately 3,740 finished square feet.

The 19,645-square-foot mansion is listed for sale at $3.9 million. This estate includes eight fireplaces, a five-car garage, nine bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Two more bathrooms are in the pool house.

The grounds include a swimming pool, a hot tub, a pool house, a tennis court, an outdoor bar and an outdoor kitchen.

The mansion has an indoor basketball court with an adjacent gym on the main level, and a bar on the lower level with a two-sided fireplace connected to a game room. A second fitness room is on the upper level above the garage. The main-level family room has a stone floor-to-ceiling fireplace, 25-foot-high-ceilings, gallery overlooks from the upper level, chandeliers and Palladian windows.
